The 1979 Soccer Bowl NASL Championship final was played on September 8th at the Giants Stadium, New Jersey, for the second consecutive year. The National Conference champion Vancouver Whitecaps pkayed against the American conference champion Tampa Bay Rowdies and won the match 2-1. This allowed them to claim their first ever North American championship.
